We checked in with the boys, and things seem to be going as planned right now! Nicholas hadn't had a bowel movement since birth, which the Dr. said was normal, in fact it's normal for 10-14 days in premature babies, but they gave him a suppository to loosen things up, and apparently he went a little bit last night! (Sorry may be too much information!!!) The Dr. was happy with that because they want to increase his feedings since he's been doing so good. Joseph remained stable off of his medication and he will have an echo cardiogram tomorrow to see if the duct between the two arteries is closing as they hoped!
That was the best updated we could have hoped for this morning, and I'm going to be stopping by to check on my boys this morning on my way to work, which I'm actually looking forward to getting back too, to get a sense of normalcy in my life again! My Wife will be figuring out the best way to handle Vince and the new boys as well as recovering from the C-section surgery. She is doing really well, and I'm so proud of her for all that she has been through the last 10 days, especially keeping a positive attitude!
Many of you have contacted me personally about comments on the site still, you have to publish your comments as anonymous and sign your name if you don't have a google account or the others listed, but if you can't get it to work, please don't worry we know your thoughts and prayers are working for our little guys and our family, and we can't thank you enough!
Changing Joseph's Diaper for the first time!!! |
Where's Nicholas??? So comfy with Mommy!!! |
UPDATE 8/16/2013 12:15 PM: Joseph is off his ventilator!!! After seeing him this morning the doctor said that he could come off, but they increased his oxygen to 50% just until they can make sure he is responding well. He will have his echo today instead of tomorrow just because of his delicate situation. We're a little nervous for him since last time he didn't respond well, but again we have faith in the doctors that they are making the right decision! We appreciate your prayers for Joseph today just as we do everyday, as he hopefully achieves another milestone!!!
Nicholas is hanging in there pretty strong, he's had a few bowel movements and has started his second dose of the medication to close his duct between the two main arteries. They are going to begin feeding him again as well, and he has reached his birth weight again at a whopping 2 lbs!!! He looks better today though and has been pretty active. The doctor is going to put in his PIC line today, which is a central line much like an IV where he can receive his medications and feedings a little easier.
Our prayers are being answered daily for these two little boys, and we are again humbled by all of the support we are receiving. Please keep these boys in your prayers while they go through this journey, and hopefully with the grace of God they will continue to progress every day!!!
UPDATE 8/16/2013 5:40 PM: Pretty much no changes to report right now, but Joey is still off of the ventilator at 50% oxygen. They want to turn that down if they can tonight, but it all depends on how he is responding. He was going back and forth between 85-95 O2 saturation and they want it to consistently remain above 90 before making any changes. Joseph is off of all but 1 medication now for his heart (previously on 4)!!! Hopefully he will do better this time and things will continue to improve!!!
Nicholas has his PICC line in as well, and the nurse got it perfect on the first try!!! A PICC line is basically an upscale IV that ends toward the center of the body, allowing for treatments that couldn't be obtained from a basic IV line. The PICC is considered less invasive and can remain in the insertion point, in this case under Nicholas upper arm, for longer periods of time than an IV, and serves multiple functions such as administering medications or feedings.
Sorry these pictures are a little dark, but they have the boys' "sunglasses" off and are keeping the rooms a little darker for them so they can relax a little!
Little Jr. without his ventilator!!! |
Nick passed out after a looong day...of resting!!! |
Thanks ever so much for all the updates on the boys and Kalleigh, Joe. It sure does help with us being so far away. Saying loads of prayers that those tiny ones keep improving. Love, hugs and kisses to all.
ReplyDeleteGood Saturday Morning from Danvers Il. All FIVE of you are in our thoughts and prayers daily. It's great to see that Da Boys are making progress every day. This is an incredible journey they're starting their lives with. When we got the call that Kalleigh ( I hope I spelled her name right) had had given birth to two fine boys we were happy and worried at the same time. It seems like they are at a great place and you know all the people in that area of the hospital will fall in love with them and the whole family.
ReplyDeleteWe're very happy that Kalleigh is home now. I know she missed young Vincent and I'm sure the house needs to be cleaned up and the dishes washed. The house work should help her mend up quicker and cooking a good meal for her man will no doubt help him too!
Joe, thanks for setting this up.
Here's a few added comments that I have thought as this has progressed:
#1. Yur family just a whole lot more complicated. Hang in there and when the stress is getting high, don't take it out on each other.
#2. This is a cool thing for us the watch from Danvers, thank you for allowing us in.
#3. Da Boys sure look cool, and I say that with total amazement. I've never seen little humans that small.
#4. Kalleigh, you looked mighty comfortable in that chair sleeping.
#5. Joe, the glasses. I like um. I wear a pair of sun glasses that everyone tells me are woman glasses, but obviously we are secure enough in our manhood that we can carry the burden of unconventional glasses and still function.
You all take care, Ron, Deb, Garrett, and Hoover
